Oura Ring 6: Release Window and Our Wishlist

With the Oura Ring 5 having launched in mid-2026, attention has shifted to what lies ahead for the next generation.

Oura has not officially announced an Oura Ring 6, and there are currently no verified regulatory filings or database leaks for a sixth-generation device. However, looking at Oura’s hardware cycle pattern and current technology trends allows us to project when it might arrive, alongside our wishlist for the next major hardware iteration.

When to Expect the Oura Ring 6: Deciphering the Release Pattern

Oura typically operates on a multi-year hardware lifecycle, spacing out generations to allow room for major miniaturization, sensor improvements, and software feature rollouts.

Here is how Oura’s release history lines up:

  • Oura Ring Gen 1: 2015

  • Oura Ring Gen 2: 2018 (3-year gap)

  • Oura Ring Gen 3: November 2021 (3.5-year gap)

  • Oura Ring Gen 4: October 2024 (3-year gap)

  • Oura Ring 5: May 2026 (1.5-year gap)

While the jump from the Ring 4 to the Ring 5 came relatively fast to deliver a much thinner profile and redesigned charging case, major generational upgrades usually take around two to three years. Based on this release pattern, an Oura Ring 6 is likely expected around mid-to-late 2028.

Our Wishlist for the Oura Ring 6

While the Oura Ring 5 achieved an impressively slim design, there are still several key hardware and structural upgrades on our wishlist for the next generation:

1. Silent Haptic Alarms and Alerts

Having gentle, localized vibration motors inside the ring casing remains at the top of our wishlist. A subtle haptic vibration would allow for discreet wake-up alarms, idle movement reminders, or high-heart-rate alerts without relying on smartphone notifications.

2. Standard Qi Wireless Charging Compatibility

While the portable charging case introduced with the Ring 5 was a great quality-of-life update, moving away from proprietary charging docks toward standard Qi wireless charging would allow users to drop their ring on any standard charging pad or reverse-wireless phone back.

3. Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Trend Tracking

Optical trend estimation for blood glucose spikes and metabolic health would be a massive leap forward. Giving users visibility into how meals impact recovery without wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) sensor patch is a major Holy Grail for smart rings.

4. Native Haptic Tap and Squeeze Gestures

Adding active gesture controls—such as double-tapping your index finger against your thumb to pause music, snooze an alarm, or take a phone call—would transform the ring from a passive biometric sensor into an active smart controller.

5. Subscription-Free Core Health Tier

The ongoing $5.99/month membership continues to be a point of friction. High on our wishlist is a free baseline tier that grants permanent access to core Sleep, Readiness, and Activity scores after buying the hardware, keeping the paid subscription strictly for advanced AI health coaching and long-term labs.
